Sharing projects, increasing competitiveness

The estate’s own water network, managed by AITASA, supplies water for all types of industrial use.

Regenerated and demineralised water are also produced, the result of a recent innovation and sustainability project.

  • 44 km industrial water network
  • 14 km chlorinated water network
  • Globally pioneering reclaimed water treatment plant with a capacity of 19 Hm3/year.
  • Demineralised water production with a quality of 0.2 μS

One of our most unique infrastructures is the Dixquimics Rack, which connects the companies to one another other as well as to the port: an efficient, economical and environmentally-friendly product transport system that sets us apart.

  • Direct connection between the companies that make up the cluster and the port
  • 365-day-a-year 24-hour-a-day monitoring and surveillance system
  • 71 pipelines, expandable in keeping with demand
  • Repsol rack connects the port and the south industrial estate with the north industrial estate

ChemMed Tarragona has 3 specialised fire stations with 47 professional firefighters and 15 vehicles at the disposal of the chemical companies and the Port of Tarragona.

  • 3 fire stations serving the 2 industrial estates and the Port of Tarragona
  • 47 professional firefighters serving the chemical enterprises
  • 15 ground and air vehicles at the service of the different companies
  • Constant training and emergency simulations to ensure the best possible response

The companies offer new investors the following utilities and services:

  • Water and steam

The system connects all companies to the same marine outfall to ensure better control of discharges. In the future, a deeper outfall will also allow ships with greater draughts to enter.

  • Construction to allow ships with deeper draught to enter the port
  • Data analysis system permits monitoring in real time
  • Comprehensive analytical monitoring of the marine environment

The first of its kind in Spain, the plan is an expression of the will of the industry, the Port of Tarragona and the Harbour Master’s Office to provide a unified, timely, professional response to any type of marine pollution that might occur.

  • Creation of a marine pollution protection centre
  • First port in Spain with a specific plan with these characteristics
  • Inclusion within the southern chemical estate, serving the industrial estate and the port

The expansion of the chemical wharf in 2014 represents a major strategic improvement for the petrochemical sector.

  • 1,200 metres of new berthing space for chemical companies
  • 36 hectares in total, with an expansion of 18 hectares
  • 60 hectares total port area for chemical and petrochemical products
  • More than 60% of port operations are from the chemical sector

The logistics services area offers substantial added value. It’s located next to the container terminal and the La Boella intermodal terminal, very close to the LAZ (logistics activities zone) and the south chemical estate. The container scanner and the border inspection point are also located there.

Logistics services with container intermodality include:

  • La Boella intermodal terminal
  • Customs inspection centre
  • Container scanner
  • Container terminal
  • Logistics activities zone
  • PortTarragona Guadalajara-Marchamalo terminal

Multifunctional terminal for all types of intermodal transport from sea or land. Open to companies in the region.

  • 2 reception/dispatch tracks, 4 manoeuvring tracks and 4 siding tracks, all designed to handle trains of up to 750 metres
  • Capacity to handle up to 250,000 TEUs/year
  • Electrified direct access
    Mixed gauge (Iberian and UIC)
  • In addition to the Port of Tarragona, other companies in the industrial estates have intermodal stations available for use in the region.

A major multi-purpose and multi-client terminal in the centre of the Iberian Peninsula, bringing the Port of Tarragona closer to the central hinterland of the Iberian Peninsula. It handles the primary national, European and international container and general cargo traffic flows and strengthens intermodal rail transport (sea and land) to and from the hinterland and extending it towards Madrid and central Spain.

The new logistics activities zone (LAZ) will cover 100 hectares and offer road and rail connections, direct access from the intermodal terminal and the container terminal, and an industrial area for all types of logistics and port activities.

  • 100 hectares available
  • Road and rail connection with Iberian and UIC gauges
  • Direct access from the intermodal terminal
  • Direct access from the container terminal
